Exploring Architectural Inspiration - 性世界传媒

In the first year of their DT A-Level course, the students are tasked with a live project to design a new pavilion for the 性世界传媒 campus. They work closely with Head of College, Dominic Mott who is their client and collaborate with project manager and old Johnian (OJ) Robert Ebdon and award-winning architect Mike Lawless.

As part of the research process, the group visited , where they met with Robert Ebdon, the Estates Director. He provided them with a briefing on design and construction processes, along with insights into the financial aspects of their project. Following this, they enjoyed a tour of the site, which featured the iconic Long Room and the contrasting Media Centre.

The group then travelled across the city to Battersea, where they were immersed in the Art Deco architecture of . From the heights of the power station’s chimneys in Lift 109, they were treated to stunning views of London鈥檚 renowned architecture. Which one student described as 鈥渆xhilarating鈥, as it allowed them to appreciate the blend of contemporary and historical structures that define London鈥檚 skyline.

The students reflected on their experience, stating that the trip significantly enhanced their understanding of stadium design and inspired them to blend old and new elements in their own designs, mirroring what they observe daily on the 性世界传媒 campus. They described the tour of Lord鈥檚 as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, highlighting their excitement at seeing the England team changing rooms.
