Gold DofE - ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½

ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½

Four of our intrepid Lower Sixth (Year 12) took to Brecon Beacons for their DofE Gold assessment expedition. This was the first trekking group we have had at ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ for a couple of years, so it’s great to see pupils volunteering for this arduous option.

Starting out at Pontsicill, north of Merthy Tydfil, they trekked to Talybont, Llangorse, Capel-y-Ffin and finished off at Abergavenny, the gateway to the Beacons. The weather got progressively more pleasant, as did the campsites. The 4 became 5, when a stray collie tagged on to the group for a day’s trek.

For the first time in my time as an assessor, the group arrived at the final checkpoint within 6 minutes of their projected arrival time, a superb effort. Fred Simkins, Director of Outdoor Education
