ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ College Celebrates 20 Years of ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ Festival - ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½

ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½

This year’s marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 20th anniversary. ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ College is a founding supporter of the ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ Festival, and each year continues to provide events and venues as part of the lively, vibrant village arts festival. As always, the College contributed several popular events to the festival’s lineup including tours of the College, Drama Productions of Watership Down, an art masterclass and Cake at the College.

Among the most eagerly anticipated was the Tour of the College, led by the registrar, Ian Pattison. The event, fully booked as usual, saw members of the community eagerly explore the College’s grounds and buildings. Visitors were especially struck by the stunning architecture, with many remarking on the beauty of the College’s chapel, a highlight of the tour.

The Music Scholars’ Concert, another festival staple, provided a platform for ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½â€™s talented young musicians. Though the scholars had only just returned for the academic year and had limited time to rehearse, the concert offered them a valuable opportunity to perform in front of an audience. The event showcased a range of musical talents, leaving the audience thoroughly impressed.

This year’s drama production was a special one. The College’s fifth-form scholars performed Rona Munro’s stage adaptation of Richard Adams’ Watership Down. Notably, this marked the first time the piece had been performed by a school and only the fifth time ever. The production was well received, with the students successfully bringing the classic Lapine adventure to life, and it stood as a testament to the College’s commitment to contributing unique cultural offerings to the festival.

Another highlight was the Art Drawing Masterclass, which quickly sold out. Hosted by Mrs Cuerden, the event combined art with elegance with guests drawing flowers whilst enjoying wine and canapés. The masterclass has become a favourite within the festival and continues to draw both seasoned artists and beginners alike.

Finally, Cake at the College rounded off the College’s contributions to the ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ Festival. This annual event, known as the most popular of the series, saw hundreds gather at the Music School for tea, cake, and a delightful range of student performances. Hosted by the College Prefects, the event provided a warm, community-focused close to the College’s festival events, with attendees treated to musical performances by the students, either through song or instrument.

The College’s involvement in the ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ Festival 2024 was a fitting tribute to the festival’s 20th anniversary, showcasing the vibrant talent of its students and the strong connection between the school and its local community.

Keep up to date with ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½!
