ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½

A brilliant day of netball at the Sussex round of the National Schools competitionÌýlastÌýweekend, saw three teams qualifyÌýfor theÌýregional rounds.Ìý

U14Ìý

Our U14 team started the day with a tough game againstÌýRoedean. Both teamsÌýproducedÌýan impressive performance, but ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ took the win by one goal. Some convincing wins against Seaford and Ardingly saw the girls grow in confidence to take onÌýa formidable teamÌýfrom Brighton College.ÌýAfter a slow start,Ìýthe girls found themselves 4-1 down at half-time,Ìýhowever, they regrouped and refocused to come out firing in the second half to finish the gameÌýonÌý5-5.ÌýAÌýbrilliant fightback by the girls.ÌýÌý

Another tough game against Burgess Hill Girls followed, withÌýusÌýgirls just falling short andÌýlosingÌýthe game by a goal. A final win against Mayfield meant it was out of our hands and down toÌýtheÌýresultsÌýof the other schools as to whether the team progressed. After anÌýagonizingÌýwait the ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ girls had just done enough toÌýplaceÌýsecond and qualify for the regional finals. A brilliant achievement considering the limited timeÌýtheyÌýhad to train as a squad.ÌýÌý

U16Ìý

heÌýU16 team played Burgess Hill Girls in theirÌýfirst match and came outÌýofÌýthe blocks firing to secure their first win of the day.ÌýThe girls were focused and determined toÌýproduceÌýtheir best performance and secured wins against Mayfield, Lancing and Ardingly. A tough gameÌýagainstÌýBrighton College followed,ÌýhoweverÌýwithÌýsome fantastic shooting and a vital defensiveÌýturnover, ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ÌýtookÌýaÌýtwo-goalÌývictory.ÌýTheÌýfinal two games resulted in two wins against Seaford andÌýRoedeanÌýmeaning theÌýU16sÌýqualified for the regional finals inÌýfirstÌýplace,Ìýhaving not lost a game all day.Ìý

The 1stÌýVII knew they had a tough day ahead withÌýWorthingÌýCollege, whoÌýhaveÌýwonÌýtwoÌýnational titlesÌýinÌýthe past two years,Ìýand a strong Brighton team ahead of them.Ìý

OurÌýgirls started stronglyÌýwith some dominant wins against Lancing, Mayfield, Seaford andÌýRoedean. They enjoyed a good battle with CardinalÌýNewman,Ìýand reallyÌýpushed on in the second half of the game to take the win. TheyÌýcame out hard against BrightonÌýCollegeÌýtoÌýsteal the victory. Further winsÌýcameÌýagainstÌýBurgess Hill andÌýEastbourne beforeÌýÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ÌýfacedÌýWorthingÌý– another team whoÌýhad not lostÌýa game. Fatigue set inÌýamongst the ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ girls,ÌýandÌýwithÌýa few uncharacteristic errors,ÌýtheÌýWorthingÌýteam gainedÌýaÌýfour-goalÌýlead in the first half.ÌýOurÌýgirlsÌýrefused toÌýgive up andÌýcontinued toÌýplay until the final whistle. DespiteÌýgivingÌýWorthingÌýa good game, ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½Ìýjust fell short of the win.ÌýThe final game against Bede’sÌýallowed ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ to finish on a high,Ìýsecuring another win.ÌýAfter 11 games, the girls wereÌýexhaustedÌýbut happy toÌýcome away inÌýsecond place and qualify for the regional finals.ÌýÌý
