Three past pupils, who have established themselves as well regarded cricketers, have achieved great honours this season. George Garton, Tom Haines and Jack Carson who were involved at county level whilst at ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ are proving excellent role models to current pupils.Ìý

George Garton, Sussex CCCÌý

,ÌýwhoÌýleft ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ in 2015,ÌýisÌýcurrently representingÌýSussex CCC 1st XI as a left arm seemer. Earlier this Summer, he was selected for the England One Day International (ODI) squad in the for the first time having been part of England system through the Lions since 2016. Following on from this, Garton spent the Summer representing the squad in a new franchise tournament ’ a new action-packed 100 ball game. Southern Brave progressed all the way to the final, winning the. Throughout the tournament, GartonÌýtookÌý10 wickets in nine games.Ìý

He also played an important role with the ,Ìýwho have beenÌýprogressing through the competition.ÌýThe squad haveÌý, with a five wicket win over Yorkshire CCC.ÌýÌý

To top off his extensiveÌýachievementÌýlist for the year, Garton was also signed byÌýfor the resumption of theÌý. He will join the Indian franchise after his Sussex Sharks appearance at the Vitality T20 Blast finals next week.Ìý

Tom Haines, Sussex CCCÌý

Tom left ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ in 2017, and has recently been named Sussex captain for the last part of the season having played 28 matches since his first-class debut aged 17. The season started well for Haines, receiving and signing a multi-year contract extension with as an opening batter – he is currently ranked as the fourth highest run scorer in the county. Sussex CCC believe as a new captain he will be able to develop alongside the young, homegrown players that will form the core of their 50-over and championship sides in the coming years, a huge achievement for a 22-year-old.ÌýTo top off Haines’ success this season, he has scored 1000 runs in the championship so far, at an average of more than 50. Ìý

ÌýJack Carson, Sussex CCCÌý

Carson left ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ in 2019, and quickly established himself as one of Sussex’s leading championship bowlers, after his breakthrough season last year. He is one of the stars of the championship season so far, having been selected as part of the 14-man county squad which took on in a three-day match in July, as part of India’s warm up schedule in preparation for their LV= Insurance test series campaign. Ìý

Jack has been recognised for his consistent red-ball performances since his first Sussex debut in 2020. To date, he has taken 49 wickets at an average of 25.67. His wickets in the LV= Insurance County championship make him Sussex’s leading wicket taker and the leading England qualified spinner in the competition. A hugely impressive season so far for the 20-year-old. Ìý
