Year 6 students embarked on an unforgettable trip to , perfectly aligned with their current topic of “Living Things and Their Habitats.” The adventure provided a hands-on learning experience, allowing pupils to explore the fascinating world of animals and their environments.

As the children roamed the zoo, they were captivated by the vast array of animals on display. They focused on understanding the unique habitats of each creature and the special adaptations that help them survive in their environments. From the tallest giraffes to the smallest insects, there was plenty to discover.

The highlight of the day was the two interactive workshops led by the knowledgeable Drusillas staff. The first workshop centered on adaptations, where pupils eagerly participated in discussions about how different animals have evolved to thrive in their habitats. The second workshop, “Animal Encounters,” allowed students to get up close and personal with some incredible creatures.

During the workshops, students had the chance to dress up as various animals, mimicking their movements and characteristics. This fun activity encouraged teamwork as the rest of the group discussed and identified the adaptations of each animal they represented.

One of the most thrilling parts of the day was the opportunity to handle some amazing animals. Pupils stroked a fluffy chinchilla, gently touched a wiggly millipede, and met Madagascan hissing cockroaches. They also experienced the smooth texture of a milk snake, admired the tough shell of an armadillo, and interacted with a friendly bearded dragon.

Throughout the day, students were full of enthusiasm, asking lots of questions and engaging with the staff. Their curiosity sparked lively discussions about the animal kingdom and the importance of preserving habitats.

Overall, the trip was a fantastic success, leaving pupils with memorable experiences and valuable knowledge that they will continue to use throughout their science topic on living things and their habitats. This exciting day not only enhanced their understanding of science but also deepened their appreciation for the incredible diversity of life on our planet!
